About Sarah Groves
I am in love with healthy cooking, and I want to share the joy that comes from eating real whole food. I am currently a graduate student at Vanderbilt University on track to get a Ph.D. I am studying and modeling the complex system of lung cancer. Systems biology is essentially the study of how a whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and my background in math and physics means I try to understand this complexity by looking at patterns in data and building computational models. Being a scientist means I take an analytical and skeptical approach to health and nutrition, always looking at the science behind any argument. This is how I make my decisions to eat and live in a healthy and fulfilling way, and I hope my approach of always questioning (and answering, if possible!) is evident in this blog. Being a systems biologist means that I approach nutrition holistically--in fact, the digestive system is one of the most complex systems there is!

The process of cooking can be nourishing for the soul, and I hope to show you just how true that can be with my recipes, cooking tips, and nutritional advice. This blog is a celebration of nutritious and real food.

I have always paid careful attention to how I eat and how it makes me feel, and I strive to listen to and respect my body. However, this became even more important on December 18, 2019, when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Although the month before my diagnosis I was experiencing classic symptoms (extreme fatigue, thirst, and weight loss), I never would have guessed growing up that I would end up with the disease, partially because I knew so little about what causes diabetes and what it looks like. I hope I can use this blog as a way to follow my T1D journey, and help anyone out there who may be going through the same thing.
